Rocky Horror is an "audience participation" experience! What do we mean by that? That means the event is designed
around *you* the movie-goer digging in and doing stuff! Audience Participation has been a tradition at Rocky Horror since the 1970s, and
adds to your enjoyment! It's just lots of fun!
You might hear tales of horrible "devirginzations" or being forced to do stuff you are uncomfortable with, but this is not true. We
will never force you to do anything you don't want to do, but we highly encourage several things.
1) Devirginization. This is not scary, trust us. It's a special "rite of passage." Anyone who has not seen Rocky Horror in the theater
with a live cast is a "virgin." You will be asked to come up front and perform an easy task to join the ranks of non-virgins. Don't worry,
it's not that bad, and is often really fun! Again, we will not force you, but we highly recommend going through with it.
2) Come in Costume! Again, it's fun! Be creative, costumes can be silly, sexy, crazy, zany, pretty, etc, etc, etc. We often have
costume contests as well.
3) Shout Callback lines! Shouting things at the screen is a tradition at Rocky Horror. You'll probably hear the cast members yelling profanities and
comedic gems at the screen. Want to yell too, but don't know what to say? Here's a link to the
audience participation callback script (word document) or pdf format.
Keep in mind, that these are not set in stone. Callbacks vary per show, time period, geographical region, etc. Feel free to make up your own! You could start a new tradition.
4) Buy a Prop Pack! Our prop packs provide you with the traditional props you need to complete your Rocky Horror experience! Click here
to see what to do with your prop pack!
5) Attitude check! Please realize that most people are not going to be sitting quietly trying to "enjoy the movie." Be prepared for a lot of loud people to be jumping
up and down in lingerie yelling, screaming, and throwing stuff. Try to have a good attitude! Have fun! Let loose!
6) What can't you bring with you? Our prop packs provide all of the necessary items. Please leave water guns, hot dogs and fire at home. Before you get all bummed out,
realize that this is one of the few theaters in the nation that will let you a) throw rice and b) throw toast. That's pretty darn generous of our hosts, why? Because they have
to clean up after all of us! However, please do not bring your own prop packs from home. The theater discourages that, and we like our theater. We would like to stay there, and we
really don't want to inconvenience you by searching your bag and your person (although you might find it fun... wink wink.) But seriously, don't ruin it for everyone else.
7) That being said... Be polite, courteous and kind to all theater employees (and cast). We all work hard to put on a great show for all of you! Cast is doing this
completely voluntarily because they LOVE Rocky Horror! Also remember that the theater employees are working waaayy later than they normally would, and letting you
throw food and toilet paper in their beautiful theater. Please be respectful of all rules and don't trash the theater. Use common sense.
See you at the show! If you have any questions about audience participation, please do not hesitate to contact us!
